Ventura recognises external DVD player/Recorder but not blank uninitialised DVD-RW

I updated to Ventura from Catalina some months. Catalina would recognise the "HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GP60NB50 external DVD Player/Recorder AND the blank DVD-RW inserted therein. The external Play'r/Rec'r was shown as icon on desktop, whether with the title of an inserted pre recorded DVD OR the Brand name of the player itself.

With Ventura, Disk Utility recognises the external DVD Play/Rec BUT says the blank DVD is uninitialised.

Disk Utility offers no option to erase or initialise the blank DVD. The external Play/Rec does NOT show as icon on desktop. When I insert a commercial DVD (Star Wars Ep. 9), the external Play/Rec shows icon on desktop WITH name of inserted DVD (The Rise of Skywalker - 8.12GB).

Can anyone offer a possible 'workaround', if one exists in this instance, please?

Hello all,

I've found a 'workaround' fro member "Old Toad" advising to locate the icon of the movie I wish to burn to the unrecognised blank DVD and right clicking on it and choose "Burn to disc" option. It works a treat with the resulting burn in MP4 format.

Thank you "old Toad".
