Your iPhone is actually "findable" when it is powered off if you have enabled the option to allow the iPhone to be findable after power off. You may have already done this without realizing it.
Tap Settings
Tap General
Tap Shutdown
Do you see a message there that "iPhone Findable after Power Off"?
If yes, even though the iPhone has been powered off, it sends out a very brief intermittent Bluetooth signal which can be picked up by another iPhone in close proximity. This assumes that battery has not run down on the iPhone of course.
Unfortunately, any iPhone thief knows how to get around this in about 3 seconds. Post back if you do not understand how smart thieves really are these days.
Presto! It already is findable when switched off. If that helps you find the phone is another matter as there are many scenarios where the location will not be found whether it is on or off.
The sad, pragmatic reality is that if your phone is indeed stolen (or severely damaged)… you’re not getting it’s usage back.
iPhones are amazingly resistant to “hacking” by even the most sophisticated thieves.
Inhibiting FindMy tracking however, is technically trivial as it’s governed by the fundamentals of RF physics.
What every owner should do is to have fully worked-thru what to do when their phone is severely damaged or stolen.
i.e. What steps do I need to take, in what order, and how do I restore a replacement phone from a backup ?
