Hi, Apple is not a bank and cannot offer a bill pay service. Some merchants offer the service of charging a payment method on file every month. If the merchant you want to setup a regular payment with, you’ll have to inquire if they offer that service.

If the merchant offers the service you can use the account information for your virtual Apple Card as the transaction source. However, you will only receive 1% Daily Cash back because Apple Pay was not used.

Without drifting too-far off-topic …
FYI, apparently there IS “some method” for some merchants to setup recurring payments via ApplePay … because I have one.
(I previously had two (2x), but the 2nd merchant ceased the practice about a year ago)
It’s a “normal” monthly, recurring, fixed-amount ($50) charge. It was setup using the “standard” black Apple Pay Button from within the merchant’s iOS app (i.e. I never provided them with my 16-digit virtual AppleCard number)
It bills to my AppleCard and I receive the standard 2% Daily Cash for each monthly transaction.
As your knowledge of these matters is without equal … I’ve always wondered “HOW” this is actually executed w/o a biometric authentication for each monthly “Apple Pay” transaction … thoughts ???
There is, but not using the virtual card numbers. The Apple Wallet generates an Apple Pay token for subscriptions.
Thank you. I am confused.
I have an Apple Card and Apple Cash in my wallet. What is Apple Pay?
Aha !
Aha
… a “Subscription Token” … good to know, thanks. 👋
Technically, they’re called MPAN or Merchant Tokens. But users won’t understand that, so for a clearer understanding I call them subscription tokens.
Merchant tokens - Apple Pay - Apple Developer
Outstanding !
MANY thanks for the added technical details.
You’re welcome and Happy New Year!
