Iphone 14 pro max updated to ios 18 not turning on

I have an Iphone 14 pro max, that was not updated to ios 17 yet, because I postponed it multiple times. Yesterday night i charged my phone and this morning it was not turning on. I suppose that, during the night, while it was on charge and connected to the wifi, the system was automatically updated to ios 18. I tried all the button combinations to reset it (volume up, volume down) and also to charge it for one hour while trying again to push the buttons. I connected it to the pc through the cable, to check if the iTunes app could detect it, but nothing. I waited all day and also tried with other cables. What can i do to turn it on again? Has anything like that happened to you?

iPhone 14 Pro Max, iOS 16

Surely you have charged your phone overnight previously. If that were the case.....and you had automatic updates enabled......the phone would have updated to iOS 17 long ago.

The phone would not have updated to iOS 18 automatically during the night......unless....you enabled that option. Or, are you saying that you know that the iPhone updated to iOS 18?

If the phone did not update to iOS 18......as I suspect.....there is likely a hardware issue with the phone.

Please try a Forced Restart on the phone a few more times. Follow the instructions very carefully, as this is a bit tricky. (Hint.....ignore the "slider" when it appears and keep holding the Side button in until the Apple logo appears. This might take another 30 seconds.)

Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

There are only 2 possible results when you perform a Forced Restart:

1) The phone returns to normal operation.....(and you will see that the phone was not updated to iOS 18 unless you changed that option).

But.....If the phone still will not start up after a few Forced Reset tries.......

2) There is a hardware problem with the phone that will need attention at the Apple Store (make an appointment) or take the phone to an authorized Apple Service shop.
