CarPlay Maps Speed Limits

I have been disappointed not to use CarPlay more, but my Grand’s system will give me the current speed limit even if I’m not needing navigation to reach my destination. In my home city that is a feature that I need even when I know the neighborhoods. I thought that was the final word on CarPlay maps, but this year while in Illinois, my cousin had two different cars (but should that matter) that her CarPlay showed speed limits even without navigation. Can I get an update on this? My phone and CarPlay still wasn’t showing it there.
