As for lasers and camera sensors and damage, yes, the potential for that damage has been known for a while:
Higher-powered lasers are particularly hazardous to sensors. And to people. And to eyesight.
I'd be worried about lasers in nightclubs damaging something that is much harder to replace than an iPhone or a digital camera. Namely, my eyes.
