Macbook battery drains/runs out when macbook shutdown

I have a Macbook Pro 16 2019 running Sequoia 15.2.

Lately I realized, after turning off the Mac, I found out that the Mac's battery is reduced or even exhausted when I turn it back on.

I have turned off every application that I have been running before turning off the Mac, but the battery still decreases even until it is completely drained.

any suggestions guys?

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 15.2

How are you turning off the Mac? Are you selecting Shut down ... from the Apple menu? If you aren't, you aren't truly shutting down. If you are, you need to make sure to wait until the faint spinning circle disappears and the screen is completely black.

I suggest disconnecting all peripherals first, then select "Shut down ..." and wait until all activity ceases, this can take some seconds or even a minute of processes are running in the background. Note that sleeping the Mac is very different from Shut down. Also, if anything touches a key on the keyboard (say when you close the lid) it will boot up and drain the battery.

When you start the Mac again, how do you start it? Do you get the Apple showing on the screen and boot up with a horizontal progress line showing progress?. I have a 2019 MacBook Pro 16-inch on Sequoia and it takes a short time (less than 15 seconds or so) to go through this boot up sequence. When I shut down and wait 24 hours, when booted up next the battery shows almost the same charge as before, maybe a percent or a few % lower.

If the Mac is truly shut down and still discharging significantly overnight (more than a percent or a few percent at most ... some small amount of energy is required to keep some things preserved even on a shut down Mac) then I think there is a hardware problem. Because a shut down Mac should be running no programs. You will need to get that checked out at an Apple authorized repair shop. In the meantime, simply connect your Mac to a power supply (charger) overnight, why aren't you doing that?

Just to add additional comments

Macbook Pro 16 2019 is already 4 years old.

Batteries do loose Battery Capacity to hold a charge

Some of the biggest enemies for Batteries are excessive Heat or excessive Cold

  • Operating temperature: 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C)
  • Storage temperature: -13° to 113° F (-25° to 45° C)

If you going into the " System Information " applet in Utilities

What does it register regarding the " battery health " ( normal / needs service ) and what are the number for the Full Battery Cycles ?

Another method to get a UU view of the battery health

The important elements are outlined in Red

If you below the battery is still good, then it must be so

Though, from you images

1 - Capacity Life Remaining: 80.1%

2 - Battery Manufacturer: Huizhou Desay Battery Company

This battery is bordering on needing servicing " Battery Cycles and / or 80% Capacity "

As for who is this manufacturer of this battery - I can not say as I have not seen this manufacturer before

Smart and alert you are, PRP!

To the original poster: the battery manufacture date is shown as July 2020, can you confirm that this is not the original Apple provided battery? (Or that it is?)

Battery condition is shown as "Fair." That's not failing but it is not good.

I think the laptop should be taken to an Apple Authorized Service Provider for checkout because if truly shutdown, the battery is still powering some circuits which it should not be. This could even pose a safety hazard if not addressed.

The advise provided by @steve626 is Spot On and should be taken seriously re-have Apple Look that this computer

Third Party Parts and especially batteries can catch fire or worse still explode under creation conditions

Personally, I would keep the computer 100 % OFF and disconnected from the charger until the machine has been examined by Apple or a Certified Apple Service Centre

None of those corner shops that purport to know and work on Apple Computer
