I'm going to buy a second hand iPhone. The seller says it has had a battery swap, done at Apple. Service history in iOS says "Genuine". My question is, is there a way to differentiate a battery swap done at Apple, and one done by a random person that just takes one out of another iPhone and puts it in another.
The iPhone is a 14 Pro.

To make things even more complicated, Apple now sells batteries to be installed by non-Apple people; even you. I don't know if these are reported as "genuine", since the battery is but the installer isn't. If that makes a difference to you. To me it looks like the battery itself is genuine. Have you checked Battery Health? If the battery was installed a year ago then you might expect a nominal 1-2% decline per month in battery health. iPhone battery and performance - Apple Support

It is easy to tell if a person installed a non-genuine Apple battery because there will be a message about an "Unknown Part" displayed in the settings.
But not easy to tell, and it may not be possible to tell if a person pulled a genuine battery from an iPhone and installed it in another, provided that the correct part was swapped.
If service was indeed performed at the Apple Store or an authorized Apple shop, they would have certainly installed a new genuine battery.
No, not without disassembly and even then it’s not always easy to tell.
