How do I kill the CardDAV password popup?

After editing a contact, I keep getting CardDAV popups asking for a password, and it doesn't accept my Google password. The entire device seems to be locked, with no easy way out other than a reboot. How can I kill this malicious app and prevent it from ever running again? Thanks.

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 12

Temporary solution:

Tap Settings > Apps > Contacts > Contacts Accounts
Select the account that is associated with the account you believe is causing the issue
Toggle Contacts off

Permanent solution:

Tap Settings > Apps > Contacts > Contacts Accounts
Select the account that is associated with the account you believe is causing the issue
Click "Delete Account"
Power the phone off and then back on
Tap Settings > Apps > Contacts > Contacts Accounts
Tap "Add Account" and proceed with instructions for the type of account
