How do I kill the CardDAV password popup?

After editing a contact, I keep getting CardDAV popups asking for a password, and it doesn't accept my Google password. The entire device seems to be locked, with no easy way out other than a reboot. How can I kill this malicious app and prevent it from ever running again? Thanks.

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 12

Temporary solution:

  1. Tap Settings > Apps > Contacts > Contacts Accounts
  2. Select the account that is associated with the account you believe is causing the issue
  3. Toggle Contacts off

Permanent solution:

  1. Tap Settings > Apps > Contacts > Contacts Accounts
  2. Select the account that is associated with the account you believe is causing the issue
  3. Click "Delete Account"
  4. Power the phone off and then back on
  5. Tap Settings > Apps > Contacts > Contacts Accounts
  6. Tap "Add Account" and proceed with instructions for the type of account
