Family sharing: Cannot call my child's phone

I just bought a new Iphone 13 for my 9-year-old child. He has his own Apple ID and I have added him to my family group on iCloud via Family Sharing.

The problem is that myself and my wife (who's also part of Family Sharing group) cannot call him. We can text and Facetime him, but not regular calls. It just hangs when we try to call, so we do not get forwarded to the answering machine or anything.

My 14-year-old daughter (who's also part of Family Sharing group) can call him.

So it's very, very weird and I would really like to get this problem solved.

I have updated his phone, reset the network settings, checked the do-not-disturb settings, checked the blocked contacts etc. No luck.

Please help :-)

Simply typing in his phone number does not work? To me it sounds like you do not have the correct number. I cannot think of a reason why both you and your wife cannot call him. Have you contacted your carrier? Has he blocked both of your numbers? Even then I would think you could call him, he just may not respond. Do you get any kind of reply?

I've requested this thread be relocated to the iPhone forum (it may take some time). Since this is happening with both you and your wife it really sounds like you are both using some common setting. I rarely use my iPhone and certainly few of the advanced features so I am not familiar with anything myself that could cause this.

In the meantime, have you tried the universal problem solver, restarting your iPhone?

Nope. It doesn't call either when entering his phone number.

I have contacted my carrier and they couldn't help.

He has not blocked our numbers.

We don't get any reply. It just doesn't call at all so no tone or anything.

What exactly is happening? Does it ring? Do you get a number not available message? I am trying to determine where exactly it is failing.

It shows his contact image + name and says "Calling mobile". But there's no dial sound in either my end or his end. And it doesn't call. After 15 seconds or so it stops by itself.
