Retail store unable to provide invoice for iPhone purchase

I just bought an iPhone from a retail store in the US.

All I got was an email receipt. They say they are unable to provide an invoice with my personal information on it.

I called the Apple help, they said they cannot access my purchase.

So no way for me to get an invoice, which in practice, shouldn't be hard to get. How can I get it ?

Thanks for your help.

An invoice and a receipt are virtually synonymous. Apple doesn’t and most businesses in the US don’t invoice people, businesses yes, individuals no.

Apple Stores can provide receipts. But an invoice was never created. You receive a receipt from Apple, just like you would when you make a purchase at a grocery store.

Specifically, what information does the receipt need to contain?

Thanks Jeff.

I just need my name on it, as I need to prove that I did the purchase. Indeed, my company will refund me this purchase, and they cannot do so without my name on the receipt.

I indeed requested my personal information to appear on the receipt when checking out. The sales guy told me that this was not possible.

I continued with my purchase, thinking that everything could be done online, which is not the case…

I called them back earlier today, requesting for this information to appear, and again nothing possible on their side. I also called Apple’s generic help center, and they stated that they don’t have access to my purchase since it was done on a physical store.

So I’m a bit lost

This isn’t going to be easy, to some degree.

Please call the Apple Store at 212-336-1440 and ask for a manager. The phone may ring for a while. Please be patient while it rings and while a manager comes to the phone.

Explain your circumstances and the solution I’ve purposed. Since you’re overseas, they can email the receipt and manager’s business card to you. It would be outside the norm to mail this overseas and at the manager’s discretion (and expense) to mail overseas.

Please let us know how this works out.
