Macbook App Store treats Mac apps as iPhone apps

I cannot download Apps from the Macbook App Store eg Launch Palette:

  1. Sequoia 15.2. Macbook Pro M1
  2. Click on GET -> INSTALL - the circle spins & then a popup appears like seen for the iPhone where there's instruction to double click.
  3. I have cleared the caches & spent hours searching online. I found 2 others who have had this problem a month ago.
  4. I downloaded PastePal for my Macbook, and had the same problem. On a whim, I downloaded the app for my iPhone, and I was able to eventually download the app for my Macbook. This has happened for 2 Macbook apps with accompanying iPhone apps.

I am at a loss!

I cannot download an app for my Macbook from the AppStore unless there's a corresponding app for the iPhone!
