Macbook App Store treats Mac apps as iPhone apps

I cannot download Apps from the Macbook App Store eg Launch Palette:

  1. Sequoia 15.2. Macbook Pro M1
  2. Click on GET -> INSTALL - the circle spins & then a popup appears like seen for the iPhone where there's instruction to double click.
  3. I have cleared the caches & spent hours searching online. I found 2 others who have had this problem a month ago.
  4. I downloaded PastePal for my Macbook, and had the same problem. On a whim, I downloaded the app for my iPhone, and I was able to eventually download the app for my Macbook. This has happened for 2 Macbook apps with accompanying iPhone apps.

I am at a loss!

I cannot download an app for my Macbook from the AppStore unless there's a corresponding app for the iPhone!

The Launch Palette app does not download . . .

It won't download until you click on the blue "Install" button on that dialog sheet. After clicking that button, it will ask you to authenticate to license the app. Once you do all of that, it should download.

Again, I can only guess that you are not seeing that install button because you haven't confirmed that it shows up or not.

The reason you can get the app after downloading the iPhone version is you have already licensed the "purchase"

from you iPhone. You won't need to authenticate on the Mac. Since you haven't "purchased" a license, yet, you must enter your Apple account password to license the app. That will only happen if you click on the Install button on the confirmation dialog.

Do you ever see the blue "Install" button on the confirmation dialog?

I can't download any apps from the App Store for my Macbook.

Why not? What happens when you try? Can you give an example? Are you getting some kind of error message? If so, what does it say?

This is a really annoying problem here in the forums. People often say they "can't" do something, usually something that's easy to do. But what does that mean? Is there a lever that pops out of the keyboard and smacks your hand away when you try to click the "Get" button?

I click on GET, which turns from Green into the Blue INSTALL button, all I get is this pop up.

I have never had any pop up other than via the iPhone/iPad store!

What “should” & “is” is irrelevant.

I want help as to how I can download from the App Store!

You’re not helping a whole lot with your problem. Do you see the install button on the confirmation dialog or not?

When I click the Green INSTALL button, the Circle spins & this popup appears with my account email, the logo & name of the app & a Cancel button.

It will continue to sit there until I click “Cancel”!

The app, Launch Pallet refuses to download.

The curious thing is this. I can download an app to my MacBook IF I install its iPhone equivalent. Not all apps have an iPhone equivalent!

An example:

There’s an app called PastePal (the name is irrelevant). The app has an MacOS version & an iPhone version. It also refused to download to my MacBook.

However, when I installed the iPhone version, I was able to install the MacBook version.

This has happened twice because I was able to download the app called, “Paste” onto my MacBook after installing the iPhone app first.

This behaviour doesn’t make any sense. I hope it does to you.

Many thanks!

No, your description makes no sense as it is not what happens when I attempt to install the same app. I see the exact same confirmation dialog as you posted but mine has a blue install button.

No, I don’t.

A couple of days before, I downloaded an app from the MacOS store. But, it didn’t involve seeing any popup. This is why I didn’t understand you.

To download, I click on GET, then INSTALL at which point, the grey circle revolves & downloads the app. There was no popup!

This is why I was not understand you!

Thank you for persisting. I don’t understand why there’s no blue install or why I have never seen this popup when downloading.

Have a good weekend!
