Photo import issue after software updates on Mac and iPhone

Even if I turned off my phone and on again. The system Library only show gray boxes. Trying for weeks and it still doesn’t work.

Could you please elaborate a bit?

How are you trying to import? From another Photos Library? Files or folders from your Pictures folder or an external drive?

Are you getting an error message? If yes, why is the message?

Typically you may be seeing grey boxes in Photos, if there is a permissions problem. Does Photos have full disk access in the System Settings "Security and Privacy"?

And is your Photos Library stored on a compatible drive? The library should be in your Pictures folder or on an external drive with a wired connection, not a NAS, not in any folder on iCloud Drive or another synced folder like Desktop or Documents (if they or on iCloud Drive), and the file system format of the external drive should be MacOS Extended (Journaled) or APFS.

Thank you for your reply and trying to help. I want to import new items(photos and videos) from my iPhone library to my system library on an external drive through my Mcbook with a cable connection. It was done successfully previously before the both software updates. Now I got gray boxes, no error messages. Click the import new button and wait for whole night, nothing got imported. I don’t use iCloud, therefore it’s always turned off. And both my iPhone and Mcbook are using the most updated software. Very frustrating.

Hi Richard,

Drive Format is compatible, I had imported library successfully before withe same setup. I suspected that the permission was changed by the software updates either on my iPhone or on my MacBook. For this, I have tried to reset the location & security a few times and click “trust this computer” whenever it asks, but all in vain. Any advice on what else needs to be done to get it work will be much appreciated.
