'Disk not Ejected Properly' issue

I am getting this error with a Lacie USB C drive connected to an iMac. When the iMac is woken from sleep, there are several disk not ejected properly notifications. It's happened both on M3 and M4 iMacs. It also seems like something with the Apple Silicon chips is the cause. I've seen that others have been having the issue I have alleviated the issue somewhat by adjusting my sleep settings so that the iMac does not go to sleep and just turns of the display after a while.

I previously had the drive connected to an Intel iMac with Sequoia running and did not have this issue at all. It's only when connected to a newer iMac with the Silicon chip. So I don't think MacOS is the issue, but something with the new Silicon chip hardware.

Full Computer Sleep Mode is causing external drive, external display and other issues.

It might help, if enough folks send Feedback to Apple.

In the mean use and time test the following settings:

Turn On "Prevent automatic sleeping when display is off"

Set "Turn display off when inactive" to 5 or 10 minutes

Leave the iMac On and only allow the display(s) to turn Off

Do not manually Sleep from the Apple Drop Down menu

Only Shut Down the iMac when away for a day or more
