can i add a non apple gift card

I received a text message with a picture of a gift card code from my sister in law for a local store that doesn’t have gift card usage on their website site. She said I can add it to Apple wallet or Google wallet. She uses Google. I can’t find a way to add a gift card to my Apple wallet. Is she wrong about being able to add this gift card to Apple wallet?
