What is the purpose of the new app Iphone mirroring if it only works when your phone is near your laptop?

I just updated my computer and it came with the app "iPhone Mirroring". It is when you can use your phone through your computer. The only problem is that it only works when the iPhone is nearby, which defeats the purpose of the app because if you have access to your phone you wouldn't need the app. It would be most helpful when the phone is NOT nearby and can access it through the computer. What is the point of the app and can it be fixed to connect from farther distances?

It can only be used when the phone is near the Mac. See the following from iPhone Mirroring: Use your iPhone from your Mac - Apple Support

Make sure that your Mac and iPhone meet the iPhone Mirroring system requirements below, including that each is signed in to the same Apple Account, and your iPhone is locked and near your Mac.

That same support article describes some of the things related to "the point of the app" such as notifications going to the Mac, using the Mac mouse or trackpad to interact with the phone, playing audio through your Mac, resizing the iPhone window, and using drag and drop between the devices.
