Find My won’t update location on iPhone after iOS update

Ever since the last software update, FindMy doesn’t work well (suddenly only shows location from hours or days ago and won’t refresh). My family uses this app frequently to see one another’s location, and it used to work perfectly.

Please don’t tell me to check WiFi signal, airplane mode, restart devices, etc. I would not be reporting it if I hadn’t checked those things. This is a bug.

Here’s what eventually worked for me ON THE PHONE OF THE UNTRACKABLE PERSON:

> Apple account > Find my > share my location

Set to off for a minute or two, and then switch it back on

Yes, this is pretty rubbish. Happened to me in the last week on two other family phones. Just stopped finding location and assume as they had both updated to latest IOS. Had to turn location settings on and off again on both phones.

Really really rubbish this bug gets through and also that we don't get any notification that the Find My status may have issues or something changed.

OK, so if the issue persisted for several months, users and devices, with any troubleshooting methods known performed, you are probably right with contacting apple about an unknown issue with find my, which has occurred since the update to iOS 18. Also if it seems to affect only very few users, Apple should not leave the problem unaddressed. Maybe there’s even a very easy fix… we all just do not know. As no one else answered to the post, it’s probably time to contact support or at least send feedback. I actually intended to attach a feedback link, yet I’ve not been able to locate the find my service on Product Feedback - Apple.

hope you get rid of the problem!

Still nothing permanent. A reboot of the stuck phone helped for 1 findmy update and then reverted to stuck. A toggle cycling of location services kind helped for a few days, but I had to quit findmy after each update to get a fresh update (plus it stopped working after a few days). The only saving grace is that if the phone is part of your family unit, you can use "find device" on their phone and that seems to still work (at least for me)

This also just happened (is still happening) to us… family member was driving three states away on vacation, and suddenly their location just stopped updating along a highway. It’s been three days now. I called them 2 days ago and had them restart their phone, which briefly got me a correct location for them, but it soon reverted back to the same stuck highway location. Given that multiple people are seeing them at the same wrong place, we can be certain it’s not on our end, but a bug on the traveling phone’s software, or some bug in the service back end tied to that user’s iCloud account.

It’s just a little, daring, diagnosing a software bug no other user seems to have. Usually, find my shows a consistent location of hours ago because, as you mentioned,

  1. no signal
  2. any reason that could cause the device to have no signal (turned off, airplane mode, not charged)
  3. location services turned off
  4. others

sometimes find my tends to take it’s time to update, yet that would be considered a general issue with the network and not a bug introduced with the latest iOS.

I understand what you’re saying. But the issue has persisted for a couple of months since the update. I have tested, accounting for the variables you described. Prior to the update, the app virtually never failed (a span of maybe 5 years). I’m not being critical of Apple, and if it sounds that way it wasn’t intended. I’m saying there is some set of variables that have caused a degradation in performance of the app since the upgrade. It may be specific to me or a small subset of users, but I don’t want it to be ignored as an issue that can be resolved with basic troubleshooting on the user end, which I’m fully capable of and have performed on my own.

Since the most recent software update iOS 18.3 was automatically installed in my phone 2 days ago, the Find My is not updating re my son’s location. I’ve asked him to update his software too, but still no change…..I can see this has been a problem at least since January this year…..how come it’s not been resolved??
