IOS 18.2 Wallpaper Feature - Photo larger than want to see

In IOS 18.2 using the wallpaper feature (backgrounds) with my own photos, with the aspect ratio set to "wallpaper" and adjusted to "show" exactly what I want to see in my background, makes the photo bigger than I want to see. How can I fix this so it doesn't make the photo bigger than what I've originally set in the cropped version in my Photos app?
