Saving Voice Memos to Dropbox on iPhone

Can you save a voice memo to Dropbox and then delete it from your Voice Memos to save space? Or for it to be saved in (and shared via) Dropbox does it need to remain in your Voice Memos?

  1. Default Storage Location:
    1. When you record audio using the Voice Memos app on your iPhone, the recording is saved in the Voice Memos app.
    2. If iCloud syncing is enabled for Voice Memos in your iCloud settings, the recordings are also automatically uploaded to iCloud. This allows you to access them across all devices signed in with the same Apple ID and iCloud enabled.
  2. Sharing and Saving:
    1. Once you share a Voice Memo recording and save it to a third-party service like Dropbox, the file is now stored in Dropbox.
    2. You can safely delete the recording from the Voice Memos app if you no longer need it there. This will free up storage space on your device and iCloud, without affecting the copy saved in Dropbox.
  3. Important Notes:
    1. Ensure the file has been fully uploaded to Dropbox before deleting it from Voice Memos.
    2. Deleting a recording from the Voice Memos app will also remove it from iCloud if iCloud syncing is enabled, so double-check the Dropbox upload.

This process helps manage storage effectively while keeping important recordings backed up.
