AirPod 4 will not ping in case from find my app

Just bought new AirPod 4 specifically for this feature. I connected them and went to try out the new feature of pinging them through find my app while in the case and it worked the first time but was very quiet. I went to adjust the volume and now they won’t connect at all to find my in the case. Please help
