Jittery Sound through HDMI

Hi,

I'm experiencing a strange issue with my MacBook. When I connect it to my TV via HDMI, the picture works perfectly, but the sound output through the TV is jittery, crackly, and unusable. This issue appeared out of nowhere, and as a result, I have to play sound through my laptop instead of the TV.

I've ruled out the HDMI cable as the cause since it's brand new and tried multiple. I've tried switching between the MacBook and TV outputs in the Sound preferences. I've also checked the Audio MIDI Setup, where the audio output is set to 48 kHz (the standard).

Despite all this, I can't figure out the cause, and I haven't found anyone else reporting the same problem online. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions to resolve this?

Thanks!

To trouble shoot further you can:

—A SafeBoot Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled temporarily.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

This test will tell you if third party interference; most extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.
