Unable to connect camera with USB on my MacBook Air

I'm trying to connect an older camera to my MacBook Air. It has USB C ports and I have an adapter going from USB to C which has a light that shows that it's connected. I turn the camera on which also has a light to show that it is connected. The issue is that the camera's files are no where to be found on my Mac. I've tried to update settings in finder to make sure that it appears as an external source but nothing seems to be working. For anyone wondering the camera is a Kodak EasyShare C643, 2006, and my Mac is an M2 chip, 2022.

Kodak – Kodak EasyShare C643/C603 zoom digital camera – User's guide

That camera

  • Can output photos at resolutions ranging from 0.8 MP to 6.1 MP.
  • Has 32 MB of internal memory (28 MB available for image storage)
  • Can store photos on an optional SD/MMC card – though I don't see any mention that it is compatible with SDHC and SDXC cards sold today

The manual assumes that you will be using Kodak EasyShare software to do the picture transfer.

"CAUTION:

Install EasyShare software before connecting the camera to the computer. Failure to do so may cause the software to load incorrectly."

While the manual refers to a Mac OS X version of EasyShare, the manual also has a 2005 copyright date. In 2005, the current versions of Mac OS X were 10.3 (Panther) and 10.4 (Tiger). I think it extremely unlikely that any version of EasyShare that ran on Tiger would have survived the introduction of Catalina, much less that of Apple Silicon Macs. A PowerPC-only version built for Panther or earlier would not even have lasted that long.

If you have SD and MMC cards that you are using with this camera, maybe you should try getting a USB card reader. I don't think anyone still makes the original type of SD card, but just about any SDHC or SDXC reader should be able to read one.
