Safari search results in English UK instead of English US

Safari search results in English UK instead of English US

Help please. How do I get safari to return results for English UK and not English US. I have followed instructions and everything in system settings / general / language & region is set to English UK but when searching in Safari results still comes back with US sites and US dollars instead of UK sites and UK pounds. My VPN is also set to UK, I have tried with VPN turned off and that doesn't help. I have had to download Edge to get around this but want to use Safari for paying, passwords etc.

Your question is confusing to me because the Safari browser app uses the Search Engine specified in Settings. It does not perform a web search on its own. Look into your chosen Search Engine.

Ok thanks. I am going to proceed on the assumption that everything related to Location Services is suggesting an incorrect location.

Given that you already ruled out the possibility of having set the Mac's location to the US or some other incorrect location: Change Language & Region settings on Mac - Apple Support, that leaves the VPN as the next likely culprit.

In general it is not sufficient to merely disable such things. Try uninstalling it completely, confirm it's really gone, and test. You might need to restart your Mac before drawing any conclusions. Try that and let us know what happens.

Hi John thank you for your reply, in response, as default I have 5 search engine options in Safari and I have this issue with all of them thats why I am thinking there is a problem somewhere with settings that I can't find. Also (for an example) there is an option in the Apple Communities site to default the search to Europe/Uk from United States I cannot change this, it keeps going back to US. I don't have these issues if I use the Microsoft Edge browser. I have checked my Mac settings again Language & Region is set to UK as is my VPN I have tried searching with this off but that doesn't help
