Since you haven't shown us a screen shot of the actual pop-up, we have to make assumptions. If it's anything similar to this…
…the OS itself is displaying the message. I imagine you already know this as it appears you found and followed the user tip on how to find the cause of such messages. Otherwise, it would be odd you didn't, but still posted screen shots of the three daemon folders.
Why would wiping the drive make you a lunatic? You have so much invasive "security" software installed (like the nearly impossible to remove, Citrix) that erasing the drive and setting it back up from scratch is simply the fastest and easiest thing to do.
You will find yourself with a Mac that runs about 1000% better.

Of course I read it. Did you miss the "almost" in your sentence?
And of course, companies that require employees to use Chrome should be closed. Or if you work for such a company, you should quit your job. Because, we all know what browser one uses is most important. 🤣
That analogy isn't the same thing. Your employer owns the equipment you use. They pay you to do a job. They of course have the right to decide what equipment and what software is used in their company.
The point was individual users should never, ever be forced into using one particular browser to access the web, for any reason. That would be sending us back to MS's attempt to control the internet.
The bank may control their equipment, but they don't own or control mine. If they set up their portal so tightly that only Chrome works, then it's the last day they will see me as a client.
I do realise your collective evangelism to lazy use of additional applications.
However, this popup suggesting the operating system will not work effectively with some hidden hint of an (not particularly extreme) app "cleanmymac" is far worse than any perceived slowly of the operating system.
my laptop is no longer functional - I am not going to 'wipe it' like some lunatic.
can anyone help me stop this popup - before I throw the machine in the river and leave such clever machinery to you experts.

FWIW, Goodle Chrome is not the cause of your problem.
Directly, no. I was bundling Chrome in with all of the junk VPNs for their known function of collecting personal data without the user's okay, or knowledge.

Just curious, where are these ads I'm being targeted with?
Just to add, I have 4 active gmail accounts and it's rare I get even one spam email in a week. So I'm not experiencing the evil Google empire. Maybe they're just not good at it.
