How can I revert keyboard settings for # sign on my MacBook Air?

I have obviously inadvertently changed my shift +3 key because it gives me the £ sign and not the # sign how can I revert to # sign

Go to system settings > keyboard > text input > edit > all input sources and use the minus button at the bottom to remove the item named "British". You should just have one item on the list, with the name US or ABC.
