Apple Motion Color Bug - Imported images different color to what they should be

Hello, I have a bug relating to color in Apple Motion.

I am outputting still images from one Motion project into another for animation purposes but even though the colors are exactly the same in both motion projects when I take the imported image into either project the color is wrong. The blue is darker (the whole image is darker than it should be but the blue is obvious as it has to match the blue in the project). Before the Sequoia update this was not an issue as the imported images were the exact same colour so you could not tell and thus the animation would work. But now this issue makes them unusable.

The color space for both projects is the same (Standard gamut SDR) when you look at both Motion projects the colours look the same for they all share the same RGB (or Hex) values. It's only when you output a still image and then bring that into the other Motion project are the colours darker. I am using Motion 5.9 and there is no new update available.

Looking at previous versions of the projects which were fine when I was working on them before the Sequoia update are now showing a difference in colour with the still images and the rest of the canvas. This was definitely fine before.

Even in finder there are discrepancies where PNG files show darker but Tiff and Jpeg show correct colour. However when I bring those into Motion they show darker.

So it might be the way Motion is rendering the outputs and then rendering the inputs. As a test I have outputted a ProRes 4444 video file and the colours display as they should - and they are also correct when imported into the other Motion project. So there is a work around of sorts. But a still 4k image is easier to manage than a 4k ProRes file so my workflow has been nuked by this issue.

It's really frustrating seeing as it was fine before Sequoia and now it's a mess. Although it may not be Sequoia it may be Motion's most recent update (I haven't needed to look at this project since last October but the client is coming back so I need to fix).

Has anyone else encountered this issue and is there a quick fix that will allow images to be rendered correctly with the exact colour that the files should be in.

Any help or insights will be appreciated. Thank you.

p.s. sorry for colour being spelt either color or colour....

This looks like it may be the same problem that is afflicting FCP, and is related to how the color space is handled.

A relatively quick workaround, until the problem is fixed:

export a play range as a quicktime movie;

in Quicktime Player, move the playhead to the frame you want, and Command-C;

in Preview, Command-N (or File->New from Clipboard), and then save as a png or other desired image format.

If you reimport the file created above, you should get results that are identical the original.
