Forgot iPad passcode after setup interruption

was trying to set up my iPad. Got started but hit a question I wasn’t sure how to answer. Friend wasn’t sure either and suggested I turn off iPad while she researched an answer. She was unsure. Left iPad off till I got a charger. Now I try to restart and screen goes thru several languages then changes to a number pad that dates “touch screen requires passcode to open” what passcode and how do I find it? Sorry but I am very tech ignorant. But do need help.
