IOS 18 is filled with issues, HELP needed.

Hi, ever since i updated my iphone to ios 18 i have encountered issue after issue, bug after bug.

. First off - my home screen’s app layout became all mixed up.

. Second - my background picture changed, it changed opacity and more stuff with the screen layout/setup i used to have. *And i hope this is to showoff new features and not a bug..*

. Third - my Imessage stopped working, i tried everything to problem solve, no resolution until i logged out of icloud, restarted the phone, then logged back in.

Bugs:

. The settings app is now trash, no one asked for this restructuring and re:sorting, settings are now hard to find or unavailable until you search for it.

. Which brings me to my next bug - the settings apps search function is not responsive, very slow. With it always showing ”No result for ’insert text’”, for a second or two before showing me the results.

. ’GIF’ pictures in my photos app, either dont load properly or stop playing/replaying after only repeating it a few times.

. (Lots more bugs that i cant recall right now but i have had problems with safari and also different privacy features/settings on the phone)

I’m not opposed to change and I’m not opposed to using this revisioning of ios. Even if its not to my liking. BUT in no universe will I be okay with all these problems in a IOS that isn’t beta.

So PLEASE help me reverse this update without losing anything. I want to go back to IOS 17, and use it until no more security updates will release.

A couple of things…

Settings being restructured/changed from what you are accustomed to isn’t a bug. It’s a change. The search feature always existed because believe it or not…when iOS 17 came out some complained about the changes and not being able to find things without using search….and iOS 16…and pretty much any time a change happened that was different than what people were used to. On its own as you initially presented this the changes in settings just isn’t a big. The follow up part you mentioned could be a bug BUT… (see next part)

You haven’t mentioned what particular iPhone you are using but if it’s an older one with an older chip that may play a part in lagging issues you are experiencing. You haven’t mentioned any troubleshooting you have attempted to try and address the lagging either so it’s difficult to try and assist you if you don’t clearly explain what you have tried so far. Not sure if you have looked at the following link or if anything in it applies to your situation but going through it would be a part of troubleshooting. Worse case scenario it doesn’t help you but you won’t know until you try (if you haven’t already of course).

Any other bugs you are experiencing….have you reported them to Apple via the feedback form? Unfortunately perfection when it comes to any OS update doesn’t exist (not just Apple but any other brand can and will have bugs in their iOS/OS updates…it’s inevitable and exactly why incremental updates continue to release to address any problems along the way). If you try to remember any other bugs definitely add them to your post so if possible others can try to assist you with them.

Your Home Screen becoming all mixed up…not aware of that being a bug happening to a lot of users and I can’t replicate it (never experienced it in iOS 18 or any of the updates including the new update today). Not sure that is a typical problem that happens just from updating iOS although I’m curious if “all mixed up” means the way you had it organized changed (if you had some grouped together in their own folder and now are outside of that or are you referring to the actual layout of the screens changed and ended up shifting the location of some apps. More details might help clarify and make it easier to try and help).

Your iMessage issue…that could have been a glitch that could happen at any time and not just be a bug of iOS 18 specifically…especially if doing the normal troubleshooting step that you did fixed things…you said it did and didn’t state that the issue returned so is it safe to assume that issue doesn’t actually exist for you anymore or are you still having trouble with iMessage working ?

Your background picture changing…is it a photo that is a stock one on the iPhone or was it an image of your own that you are using? Is it that some settings you previously used no longer exist and you just need to go in and adjust them to the new options to get it back to what you prefer?

As already mentioned you can’t go back to iOS 17 but you might be able to get some help with the current situation from users here or by contacting Apple Support directly (if you can go into an Apple Store or authorized repair facility it might be even better)

When new apps are added/removed in an iOS update, of course your screen layout will change to accommodate those additions. Change it to however you want depending on what you want to do with the new apps and you are done.

Second - my background picture changed, it changed opacity and more stuff with the screen layout/setup i used to have. *And i hope this is to showoff new features and not a bug..*

There is an addition of new Wallpapers as are seen in every iOS update. On some of those, changing the orientation of your phone changes the effect of the image, but again you can choose anyone you want. I am using a picture as my Wallpaper and it did not change at all and has none of those effects.

Third - my Imessage stopped working, i tried everything to problem solve, no resolution until i logged out of icloud, restarted the phone, then logged back in.

For any Message issue, logging out and back in is the first troubleshooting step to take. It sounds like you have done that and the problem is solved.

So PLEASE help me reverse this update without losing anything. I want to go back to IOS 17, and use it until no more security updates will release.

That is not possible. You can prevent future updates as based on past experience, in the fall you would most likely see iOS 19, where there would be additional changes.
