I updated recently my iPhone 14 Pro to iOS 18.2.1 but since then it is overheating while on charge. What could be causing this?

After an update, it's common to experience an increased thermal temperature on your iPhone as certain tasks continue in the background including indexing. Which is sorting your millions of bytes of data. This should only last a few days before your iPhone returns to normal conditions.

Also, if you do not receive a Charging On Hold message, then you are fine.
