Using H&R Block tax software With macOS Monterey v. 12.7.6 problems

I used TurboTax in past but “forced” to use H&R Block this year due to my late 2015 iMac not able to update O.S. & T.Tax requires v 13.0 or higher but H&R can wk with v 12 & higher.

Issue1. No red dot in upper L of window?!

To close window, must close program via R click dock icon or Apple menu.

2. (Main issue)

Cannot import my PW protected prior year T.Tax file.

Will not accept my PW (which I am 100% sure is typed correctly!)

Work-a-round I used: I opened the prior year TT file (had to use my PW, which of course worked with T.Tax)

Next, duplicate that file & then change PW to no PW.

Now H&R B. Was able to import the old TT file which was NOT PW protected.

I saved the new H&R file & then PW protected it & now H&R Block will not accept the H&R file PW!

To test I did the following:

Created new Tax return H&R file (with nothing in it) “Test #1 & used PW “123”

Quit H&R & reopened & when it asked for PW, I typed 123 & it worked!

Created another new Tax return H&R file (with nothing in it) “Test #2 & used my desired, long PW. Same problem, H&R Block will not accept this PW!

I am on the phone with H&R Block software support & after ½ hr. They have no answers to either the red dot question or the more important PW question! I asked them if there is some PW criteria such as must not be longer than a certain number of characters. Phone rep does not know.

Any help is appreciated.

(I know I can just not PW protect my Tax file but hate to do that once I enter my info. I know I can spend $$$$$ top buy a new Mac & I eventually will do that but not yet.)

iMac 27″, macOS 12.7

Another option that will work with a 2015 IMac is to use TurboTax Online https://turbotax.intuit.com. It is excellent and will run on macOS Mojave 10.14 or newer. See: https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/system-requirements

Thanks for the reply.

I am familiar with Online version of tax programs from TurboTax & H&R Block. I do not feel your personal financial info is as safe when you do your taxes online vs. D/L a program to your computer & your data is only on your computer.

I'm really hoping that someone on this forum has used H&R Block desktop software before and can comment on both the missing red close button & the non-recognition of a password issues.

I appreciate your point & immediately thought of that as I was typing my response regarding safety of personal finance information online.

I could continue to take this thread off topic regarding the pros and cons of online vs. downloaded desktop tax software & pros and cons of printing out and snail mailing your paper return vs. filing.

But, I had thought some Apple Forum members must use H&R Block D/L tax software & they would comment.

I may have posted this in the wrong forum, since it really is not specifically about my “Earlier O.S.”

Someone with macOS Sequoia v. 15.2 who D/L H&R Block tax software, could comment & that would be helpful.

Maybe they would say they too do not have the red close button in the upper left and simply close the program via the Apple menu or the dock.

Maybe they would say they also had the failure to recognize password issue and solved it by using a shorter password or not including any special characters, etc.

IDK.

Thanks so much for the tip about using TurboTax online.

I have a 2015 Macbook running on Monterey 12.7.6, which was not mentioned in that link but will check it out.

I'm trying to avoid using H&R if possible, so much more clunky to use in my experience.
