Image Capture not scanning. Cannot find scanner. Mac Mini M2, 15.2

I cannot scan using Image Capture connected to my Epson 3710, all in one printer. It has worked very well in the past. I did the Epson, Check Network Connection, and got the message "Network is working correctly" and the 7 checked items all passed. When I try to scan, Image Capture cannot open a connection. Below is the message I get. Is this an Apple problem or an Epson problem? The printer works fine for regular printing.

I have a WF-3820.

There was also an entry "EPSON ES 0220" in Settings>Privacy & Security>Local Network which was off and I turned on, plus did your toggle. Now scanning with Image Capture OK. I prefer it to Epson Scan as can easily straighten documents.

This was NOT fixed as of 15.3.1, but after getting a new Mac Mini, I decided to dig a little deeper, and have found a solution for at least my situation.

Under Settings>Privacy & Security>Local Network, see if you have an entry for "EPSON Printer (EPIJAutoSetupTool2)". Toggle network access off, and run Image Capture to see if it works now (mine did).

Then you can toggle the network access back on, and it should still work, although I don't really see the need if it works while disabled.

I have an Epson workforce 545 and was able to download a driver that supports the scanner function of the printer in Image Capture. It was specifically targeted for this. It's a bit glitchy at the moment but I believe I can clean it up by deleting and reloading the printer. Here's the Epson support page where you can find your printer. https://epson.com/Support/Printers/sh/s1 Luck.

There are occasions, and depending on the device, that you may need to remove/re-add the ET-2850 in System Settings > Printers & Scanners panel. Then on the add panel, select the networked ET-2850 and let it autoselect AirPrint in the Use selector. Then add the device back. Looks like this for my laser printer:

Once re-added, and if there is no further scanner setup on that Settings panel, check if Image Capture can now see the scanner component of the ET-2850.

printers and scanners are always the first causality in any macOS upgrade, nothing new here...

did you try the new Print Center and see if your " all in one printer" responds to your scanner query

if you don't see it in the Dock try the Spotlight index...

I'm looking at dates of things I've done, and I'm not completely sure this is a 15.2 problem. 15.2 was released on December 12, 2024 (I pretty much update as soon as I can). I have a document that I *KNOW* I scanned on December 29 using Image Capture.

Out of curiosity, what type of WiFi router do you have? Mine's an AmpliFi Alien, running firmware 4.0.6. I remember a recent firmware update to my router. Wondering if it could be the router.

I have a nine year old Airport Time Capsule, version 7.9.1. I'm not sure of the date of my last scan, but it was before Dec. 12, 2024. Another problem I have is that I can AirPrint photos from my iPhone SE gen. 2, and my iPad Pro, but I cannot print Notes, Reminders, etc. My wife has the same problem with her iPhone 14 Pro. My Mac Mini M2, will print everything via Wi-Fi. My printer is an Epson ET-3710. Firmware LTo70B, which is the latest update, which may be the problem. have been thinking of switching to a TPLink mesh system, perhaps it is time. Thanks for your information.
