Power issue with macbook pro

Hello,

I have a MacBook Pro 2013 13 inch (A1502) which is having an issue with the power. Whenever it runs out of battery it won’t turn on again for several days at a time. This time there hasn’t been any sign of life for over a week.

There is no water damage and the laptop has never been dropped.

This model can power on with the battery disconnected and plugged in to a power supply so I tried that and it still doesn’t power on. Which makes me think it’s not just an issue with the battery. However, the power cable will display a green light when the battery is connected and an orange light when the battery is disconnected, so there is something happening there.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to diagnose the problem?

The SMC is responsible for managing power on your Mac. Resetting it can resolve certain uncommon issues related to power or thermal management.

Resetting the SMC may be suggested for Intel-based Mac computers as a final step to resolve issues that could be power related:

•Battery isn't charging

•Mac isn't turning on

•Fans are running fast

•Mac laptop computer gets too warm

•Built-in camera isn't working

If your Mac is experiencing one of these issues, follow the steps appropriate for your Mac model:

How to Reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support

❝ Laptop computer

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. On your built-in keyboard, press and hold all of these keys:
    • Shift on the left side of your keyboard
    • Control on the left side of your keyboard
    • Option (Alt) on the left side of your keyboard

3. While holding all three keys, press and hold the power button as well.

4. Keep holding all four keys for 10 seconds.

5. Release all keys, then press the power button to turn on your Mac. ❞
