iPhone photos unrecognizable after High Efficiency format

my iphone photos used to be compatable with my laptop. Somewhere along the line, apple set my camera to high efficiency now the laptop doesn't recognize them

I used to be able to copy my iphone photos to my laptop. Now I am unable to do that, Even my old photos that transferred before are not recognizable by my laptop. If I set my camera format to most compatable, and back up my photos, will they now be recognizable by my laptop?

I'm guessing that by "laptop" you don't mean a MacBook-- is that right? And I'm thinking that you are referring to HEIC and jpg formats for your pictures-- is that right?

I don't use Windows, but I think that you should be able to find a Windows app to convert your pictures from HEIC to jpg. Apparently the Windows Photos app will do that, but I don't know what version that works in.

You don't say what iOS you are running, but in iOS18:

Changing iPhones' System Settings>Apps>Photos>Transfer to Automatic should help.
In System Settings>Camera>Formats Most Compatible should work better.

I still have an iphone 8 plus. IOS 16.7.10. I think that is the last ios that I can get. I am trying to get to a PC not a MAC.

I do have transfer to automatic set. I just set Most Compatible format. But my pc does not even see the pictures. It tells me there is nothing there. But yes, my photos are now heic and NOT jpg. Although the old ones still say jpeg.
