Problems Using H&R Block Tax Software

I used TurboTax in past but “forced” to use H&R Block this year due to my late 2015 iMac not able to update O.S. & T.Tax requires v 13.0 or higher but H&R can wk with v 12 & higher.

Looking for help from anyone with any Mac & any O.S who has used H&R Block Tax Software.

Issue 1. No red dot in upper L of window?!

To close window, must close program via R click dock icon or Apple menu.

2. (Main issue)

Cannot import my PW protected prior year T.Tax file.

Will not accept my PW (which I am 100% sure is typed correctly!)

Work-a-round I used: I opened the prior year TT file (had to use my PW, which of course worked with T.Tax)

Next, duplicate that file & then change PW to no PW.

Now H&R B. Was able to import the old TT file which was NOT PW protected.

I saved the new H&R file & then PW protected it & now H&R Block will not accept the H&R file PW!

To test I did the following:

Created new Tax return H&R file (with nothing in it) “Test #1 & used PW “123”

Quit H&R & reopened & when it asked for PW, I typed 123 & it worked!

Created another new Tax return H&R file (with nothing in it) “Test #2 & used my desired, long PW. Same problem, H&R Block will not accept this PW!

I called H&R Block software support & they have no answers to either the red dot question or the more important PW question! I asked them if there is some PW criteria such as must not be longer than a certain number of characters. Phone rep did not know.

Any help is appreciated.

(I know I can just not PW protect my Tax file but hate to do that once I enter my info. I know I can spend $$$$$ to buy a new Mac & use Turbo Tax. I eventually will buy a Mac Studio & new Moniter but, not yet.)

Thanks!

iMac 27″, macOS 12.7

Re: issue 1)...

Quitting any Mac application can be done by clicking in the Menu Bar at the top of the screen the App name > Quit app. The keyboard shortcut for quitting an app is command-Q (⌘Q).

To close an application window, the keyboard shortcut is command-W (⌘W), or in the Menu bar you can click File > Close Window.

I have nothing for you re: issue 2).

Thanks for the reply.

As I mentioned, I have 2 alternate ways of quitting the app w/o a red dot. Now, you’ve given me a 3rd.

Have you used H & R block software? If so, did yours also lack the red close dot? Have you seen any program for Mac that does not have the red dot?

You're welcome.

No, I've not use the H&RB software. TurboTax does it for me.

And no, I've never seen a modern Mac app (OS X +) that does not have the 'stoplights' for quitting. I really can't speak to that issue. I've done a quick search for example images of that software but found none. If you could provide a screen shot of the H&RB application window, I'd be interested in seeing just what it presents.
