Are you saying what you type doesn't match what's on the key caps? In that case, check your keyboard input settings:

Apple has two German input sources -- German and German Standard. They differ in what is made by option 7890. I think you may want German Standard.

If that input source does not produce what you want, please provide details about what shift 89 and option 89 produce instead of your desired brackets.

That is odd. AFAIK, the only keyboard with the ß on a key cap is the German one. It's possible someone replaced some of the keycaps.

One solution would be to apply the relevant stickers from a set like this:

Sorry, I see now, your keyboard has the Engllsh keyboard keys for 7890 instead of the German ones, someone must have changed those.

It's not hard to make a custom layout that would match the wrong keys, but I imagine you want to keep the German versions you are used to.

You can always set the language input to German so the brackets are obtained from the 8 and 9 keys regardless of what the printed symbol on the keys are.
