Importing photos from iphone

What is going on with Apple? It's as if you are deliberately making it as difficult as possible for me to access my files.

I have various video and photo files on my iphone. Instead of simply having a DCIM folder like any normal device, Apple insists on a long and convoluted import process whereby I have to swim through several layers of proprietary obfuscation of where my actual files are

After finally copying my files off of my iPhone (15) to my new mac, (Sonoma 14.6.1) when I finally figure out where the photos are imported to, they are stored in a mysterious proprietary .photolibrary file format!!!

This is NOT what professional videographers want! It is ABSURD that Apple have designed this convoluted rube-goldberg machine of an OS to make what should be a simple 2 minute task of simply COPYING MY OWN FILES from my iPhone to my Mac so immensely complicated.

Please advise! I want to simply copy my photographs and video files from my iPhone to a drive on my mac, I do NOT want to faff around with iCloud or whatever cloud services you are selling these days, I just want to do a simple copy of the raw files (which I presume are MP4 or similar) onto a hard drive so they can be sent to post production.

Honestly, MacOS is getting harder and harder to use every day. Sonoma is absolutely *ghastly* in this regard.

Sort it out, apple chaps! You're better than this.

MacBook Air 15″, macOS 14.6

Apple has NEVER recommended copying photos from the internal data structures in iOS. It may randomly work sometimes, but it is not a supported method. There is nothing mysterious about the photo library; it is a SQLite database (as all application databases in iOS are) of photos and their metadata. You access the photo library with the Photos app on iOS or a Mac, or Windows Photos on a PC.

Here are the SUPPORTED ways of copying photos from an iOS device→Copying personal photos and videos from iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer

As mentioned in the link, you can also copy photos from your iOS device directly to a folder on your Mac using Image Capture→Transfer images in Image Capture on Mac - Apple Support

And this hasn’t changed in a very long time (at least 15 years); it is not something different with Sonoma (or Sequoia).
