Apple Watch: Use watch speaker to read notifications aloud

I know that Siri can read notifications aloud if "Announce notifications" is switched on and one is wearing compatible headphones or earbuds. Is there a way to have notifications read through the watch speaker instead?

Thanks

No, that does not work. Both the phone and watch were not on mute. This just makes everything louder but Siri still does not automatically read notifications when they come in. It just beeps and vibrate, no "You have a new notification from ????, summary: blah, blah, blah." I can still ask it to "read notification" but it would be nice if it could do so automatically.
