My DSLR numbers all images in a sequential sequence. I then always retain that number as part of any subsequent renaming. Can I force my iPad and iPhone to do the same, avoiding these seemingly randomly generated numbers which are annoyingly duplicated in the next shooting session?

Where are you seeing this? When I look at the Info Window,
I see the original file name from my Nikon.
Here's one from a RAW file imported from Lightroom:
Lightroom changed the title since I used its amazing noise reduction.
I import files from my camera's memory cares to Finder folders, and then to Photos.
How do you change what's actually recorded by the camera in your "next shooting session?"
