Do I need an additional line for my Apple Watch SE 2?

Purchased new SE2 watch for wife. The 'fall' notification feature is critical. I have her set up through her iPhone, but don't think the emergency call would be placed if she is out of range from her phone. Is that correct? If I get an additional line, would she send and receive calls only on the additional line, or would she still have usage of the line connected to her iPhone? Using ATT Mobility.

That depends on the type of SE2 watch you got and whether she is near a Wi-Fi network.

If the SE2 is a GPS+Cellular model, it will connect to the iPhone's cellular service and line when out of range of the iPhone and can place the call through that.

If it's a GPS-only model, but there is Wi-Fi available to it, it can place the call over Wi-Fi if the carrier supports Wi-Fi calling.

You should only and can only get a specific line for the watch if you don't intend to use it with a paired iPhone directly.
