On iPads, the Settings > General > Fonts section typically does not provide a preview of fonts before downloading them. However, here are a couple of suggestions to preview fonts before downloading:
1. Use Font Preview Apps:
Consider downloading a font management or preview app from the App Store, such as Font Diner or Adobe Fonts, which allow you to browse and preview fonts before downloading or installing them.
2. Search Online Previews:
Before hitting the download button, search for the font name in a browser to view previews. Many websites like Google Fonts or DaFont offer interactive previews where you can type custom text.
Unfortunately, without a dedicated preview feature in the system settings, these alternatives are the best way to view fonts before downloading them.

I don’t think it’s possible unless you have a Mac, where you could use Font Book.

Font Diner is a poorly rated collection of fonts, not a general-purpose utility. Adobe Fonts is Adobe's collection of fonts. Again, not a general-purpose font preview utility. In fact, it's not even an app.
