How can I recover a composed text that vanished before sending?

Have iPhone 16+, using iOS 18.1.2. Wrote a long, detailed business Text few minutes ago that literally vanished from phone screen as my finger was about to hit Send. Can I recover this? Not the first time this has happened to me over the years Texting on iPhone.

I don't know of anyway to recover a text that vanishes. However, I can offer two tips that work for me. The easy one is send the texts a little at a time as you go along. Not the preferred method because you often get questions coming back with each chunk you send before you finish the whole thing.

Anything long and detailed, I'm in the habit of typing into Notes first. It's easier to scroll through to see if you missed anything, or if a line or two needs rewording. Once done I just copy and paste into the text and hit send.

Before doing anything else undo your last action. If you have shake to undo enabled just shake your iPhone sideways several times. If text reappears, you got really lucky. If it doesn’t show an undo option, your text message is gone.

You can check if shake to undo is enabled by following this path,

iPhone > Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Shake to Undo
