Same problem, and it's a very frustrating one as I'm often dealing with large decks with many charts and multiple rounds of number revisions. Until they fix it, the options (and their caveats) I've been using so far are:

  1. Copy/Paste chart into PPT, then back into Keynote (as a png). Most used option of the three. Chart is uneditable, but keep the live chart off to the side. Fairly fast though adds an extra with every number revision, less risk for messy placement or wrong numbers, quality is slightly lower than live chart but not too noticeable.
  2. Manually labeling charts with text boxes. Slow, messy and risky. Not a good option if you're dealing with a lot of charts and numbers that are revised a lot. Easiest option if you don't have many charts or aren't updating the numbers frequently.
  3. Export pages as jpgs and compile into PDF after. Fastest option if image quality doesn't matter (like reviewing a draft). Far lower quality image, even if it's exported at the highest jpg quality.

I'm not entirely sure what the issue is, but here's a workaround: Press Command + Control + Shift + 4 to screenshot the charts, then paste the screenshots onto your presentation using Command + V. You can cover the charts with these screenshots and then export your Keynote to PDF. This should work if you don’t have too many charts in your slides.

Yes, Olivia Marsh, when I export as images the error does not occur, however, this makes the PDF inaccessible to screen readers.

This is probably a problem in this version of Keynote, as this same file worked normally in other versions.

Thanks for the tip. Let's wait to see if there is another possible fix
