Error "Please try again" when printing from iPhone

I have an iPhone 6S and a WiFi Canon MG3600 printer. Printing from this phone has always been hit-or-miss. Sometimes it would print, but often just spew out blank pages and print nothing. Now it won't print at all and gives an error message. As an example, here is what I get when trying to print a text file from my Google Drive. I bring up the file, hit the 3 dots and scroll down to my printer and get this:

Thank you for the information.

I guess that you are not using a VPN app either.

Not all apps support AirPrint printing. Would it be correct to assume that you have tested printing from different apps?

Have you checked the printer's AirPrint settings and whether a firmware update has been made available by Canon?

Does the printer repeatedly produce a normal test page (nozzle check pattern, initiated from the printer's control panel)?

The following models are listed as supported in About AirPrint - Apple Support (en-us edition, January 13, 2025):

  • Canon MG3610
  • Canon MG3620
  • Canon MG3630
  • Canon MG3640
  • Canon MG3650
  • Canon MG3660
  • Canon MG3670
  • Canon MG3680

Provided that the iPhone and the Canon printer are connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router), printing should be possible without an additional app.

However, you may want to try a full power-cycle sequence (do not forget the Wi-Fi router) if the printer is not properly communicating with one or more devices/computers:

  • Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the iPhone, and all other devices/computers.
  • Wait two to three minutes.
  • Power on the router.
  • Wait two to three minutes.
  • Power on the printer.
  • Wait a minute or two.
  • Power on the iPhone, and all other devices/computers.

The printer works fine from every app except my iPhone 6S. Been using it for years, but got the iPhone a year ago. However, it seems to me that printing from my iPhone stopped working since I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on a new laptop last December. So to be sure, I just went and updated the printer drivers, which re-installed everything I had again. However, I still get that same AirPrint Error. I mean, it's not an impossible situation because I can always print anything I see on my iPhone any other number of ways, usually emailing it to myself. It's just annoying.
