Texts from one person appear to come from the wrong number

My partner and I both have iPhones, both up to date. When she texts me, the number displayed shows as a third party who is not associated with either of us (it's a neighbor who I once had the number of but have since deleted). This does not happen with anyone else - her texts appear correctly when sent to everyone else. Sometimes her texts appear as "Her name & third-party-number"

We have tried: signing in and out of iCloud. Resetting and restoring my phone. Swapping out the SIM at AT&T. Checking that her contact is correct in my Contacts (it is, the extra number is not present).

This is stumping everyone, including Apple and AT&T. Does anyone have experience of this, or can suggest a solution?

That number is still associated with iMessage.

Follow the steps below to turn off iMessage.

  1. Transfer your SIM card to your iPhone.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Tap Messages.
  4. Turn iMessage off. Go back to Settings.
  5. Tap FaceTime.
  6. Turn FaceTime off. Exit Settings.

Where is the SIM with the Old Number, If it is not with you or you have given it back to the Carrier Service Provider, Then don't bother about it? Then de-registeration is not required and also not possible.

If you have it with you and want to use it with an Android device then put the SIM on any Phone (Apple or Android) and follow the GIF

Insert the same SIM into an Android or an iPhone. You may deregister iMessage online

Watch the GIF below. Here I have used another iPhone for the demo but for you, it may your choice. Android or iPhone device.
