Partition map failed while adjusting structures to fit current whole disk size

Hi all,

My MacBook Pro 2015 opened up the other day to a flashing question mark. I was able to get to internet recovery and am trying to repair my disk using Disk Utility.

When I click Repair Disk in the First Aid window for the disk, the following message pops up: “Partition map failed while adjusting structures to fit current whole disk size.”

When I click Verify Disk, I get the message:

“Problems were found with the partition map which might prevent booting

Error: Couldn’t mount disk.”

I’ve read through a couple of discussions from previous years but I’m still struggling and would appreciate any help anyone might be able to give.

Thank you!

MacBook Pro 13″

Did you run First Aid on the physical SSD in order to attempt to repair the partition table? Within Disk Utility you may need to click "View" and select "Show All Devices" before the physical drive appears on the left pane of Disk Utility.

What version of macOS installer are you accessing while booted into Recovery Mode? If you are accessing an older version of macOS than what you have installed on the internal SSD, then it will give errors if it would even scan the drive.

If First Aid is unable to repair the problem, then you will need to erase the whole physical drive (Intel Macs only) followed by reinstalling macOS & restoring your data from a backup.
