iPhone StandBy Mode issues

I have an iPhone SE 3 (2022) running iOS 18.2.1. I've tried using

StandBy Mode but it doesn't work reliably. If I set it up with my Qi

charging station in my van and turn it sideways, sometimes it comes on

when connect to power. Sometimes it doesn't. And sometimes I get it set

up and StandBy Mode comes on, runs for a few minutes, then the display

goes black. I have no idea what to do about it.

I am posting this now because 9to5 Mac posted a video explaining StandBy mode and I wanted to see if I could get it to work properly.

iPhone SE, iOS 18

Try locking the screen before connecting it to power.

Your phone doesn't have an Always on Display. It will go dark after a few minutes. That is expected behavior.

Standby Mode will go dark after a while if no one looks at it. Wave your had in front of it to turn it back on. Is your van moving at the time? Standby Mode won’t come on if it senses the phone is in use, such as moving.

It seems to work fine in my car, even when it's moving. I think the display relies on the accelerometer, not the GPS.
