About availability of TikTok and ByteDance Ltd. apps in the United States

TikTok and ByteDance Ltd. apps are no longer available in the United States, and visitors to the United States may have limited access to features.

Apple is obliged to follow the laws in the jurisdictions where it operates. Pursuant to the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, apps developed by ByteDance Ltd. and its subsidiaries — including TikTok, CapCut, Lemon8, and others — will no longer be available for download or updates on the App Store for users in the United States starting January 19, 2025.

The following are some of the apps developed by ByteDance Ltd. and its subsidiaries that are affected:

TikTok

TikTok Studio

TikTok Shop Seller Center

CapCut

Lemon 8

Hypic

Lark - Team Collaboration

Lark - Rooms Display

Lark Rooms Controller

Gauth: AI Study Companion

MARVEL SNAP

If you live in the United States

If you already have these apps installed on your device, they will remain on your device. But they can't be redownloaded if deleted or restored if you move to a new device. In-App-Käufe und neue Abonnements sind nicht mehr möglich.

Users in the United States won't receive updates for these apps, which could potentially impact performance, security, and compatibility with future versions of iOS and iPadOS, and some app functions might become limited or stop working since the app can't receive updates.

If you're visiting the United States

ByteDance's apps remain available for download in all other countries and regions where they are available.

Users visiting from outside the United States with their Apple Account set to a country or region that is not the United States are unable to download, update or make in-app purchases and new subscriptions inside ByteDance Ltd. apps while within the land or maritime borders of the United States.

After leaving the United States, you'll have access to all functionality.

It happened the same thing to me, I deleted TikTok because they say it would be banned and now is Unbanned I try to redownload the app but it won’t let me, is this a kind of bug, TikTok is unbanned so you can put it back in the App Store, please fix that error and thank you

If you read any of the 61 pages in this thread you would know the answer. TikTok itself was given a short reprieve, but the law also banned the TikTok app, and the reprieve did not apply to the app.

This is the most unhelpful comment ever made, people are speculating for a reason and app that was supposed to be banned just became accessible after everyone deleted it and now can’t get back on it. Speculation is only natural, if asking for help and understanding what’s going on and trying to give insight isn’t what this forum is for than I don’t know why it exists.

There is a difference in speculating on what one thinks is happening and presenting actual facts. It is the speculation that is not allowed on this support site, no matter how natural you may think that is. What has been presented here are the actual facts and with those facts, it should be VERY clear why you cannot download the app from either the App Store or the Google Play Store.

  • The law that imposed the fines on Google and Apple has NOT been repealed.
  • The Executive Order provided a 75 day extension for TikTok to divest to a US company. That still must happen under the current law.
  • The Supreme Court has NOT ruled whether any Executive Order could even remove the fines that Congress passed and the Supreme Court upheld.
  • Thankfully our Government is made up of 3 branches (Executive, Legislative, and Judicial), otherwise we would live in a Dictatorship. Each branch has their own Check and Balances and there has even been a link posted explaining what each branch can and cannot do. It is worth the read for a better understanding of how our Government works.

Hopefully after reading the information from these posts, you will have a better understanding. The question of if you can download the app is acceptable and the answer has been a clear NO. It should also be clear why the post you replied to by Katana-San is actually helpful as it provides the most direct response by Apple. It is the speculation that is unhelpful, so lets just stick to the facts.

If you do not know why Congress passed the law, I would recommend further reading or contacting your Congressional Representatives, since they represent you in Congress and passed the law in April of last year giving TikTok 270 days to sell. Do you know who your Representatives are and how they voted?

I deleted TikTok once I heard that it would be banned because I thought it would be it then it was announced that TikTok had been UN-banned so I went to the App Store and I couldn’t find the app to put TikTok back in the App Store for the people who deleted it since it is now unbanned

The law that banned TikTok also banned App Stores (both Google and Apple) from making the app available. The temporary suspension of the ban did not suspend the requirement in the law against providing the app.

I deleted TikTok after it was banned and on the Apple Store it says it’s unable to connect in this region and a lot of other people deleted it after it was banned and we really want it back and nobody knew if you deleted it you couldn’t get it back so that’s not fair to us who deleted it And we didn’t know we couldn’t get it back after it was deleted on the Apple Store,so that’s not fair

Anyone could have seen a collision between TikTok and U.S. law coming since April of last year, which is when the law went into effect. The debate over the law, and passage of it, was fairly prominent news at the time.

The law featured a one-time, built-in, 270-day delay before a ban would take effect. I believe that the purpose of this delay was to give ByteDance, Ltd. and TikTok a chance to divest TikTok from Chinese Government control, in which case, TikTok would not have been banned. ByteDance, Ltd. and TikTok did not use this time to carry out a qualified divestment, and so all of their "foreign adversary controlled applications" – including, but not limited to, the TikTok app, were banned.

The legal train that hit TikTok might have arrived just a few days ago, but the gates came down and warning lights started flashing at the train crossing a long, long time ago.

You guys don’t NEED TikTok. You’re just addicted to it. Use this as a time to learn to be patient. Nothing you do will get it back until the Supreme Court overturns this. Apple, Oracle, Samsung, and every US based company aren’t allowed to distribute ByteDance applications. That also includes CapCut. You’re addicted to scrolling and there’s a reason why this has gotten banned. Take it as a sign to break your addiction. You’re not going to like it, but life has a funny way of saying too bad, so sad. Deal with it. Be better than you were with this app. Take a long walk. Go for a run. Eat a healthy meal. Call an old relative for wisdom. Draw a picture. Read a book. Help an old lady cross the street. Film a vlog. Listen to music. Clean your house/room. Feed a homeless dude. Watch a documentary. Go hiking. Learn how to invest your money. Learn how to become financially independent. There’s so many things you could be spending your time on, but TikTok is taking that from you. You deserve more for yourself and TikTok can’t give you that.

The app remains banned. See About availability of TikTok and ByteDance Ltd. apps in the United States - Apple Support the 50+ pages of this thread should be all that is needed.
