About availability of TikTok and ByteDance Ltd. apps in the United States

TikTok and ByteDance Ltd. apps are no longer available in the United States, and visitors to the United States may have limited access to features.

Apple is obliged to follow the laws in the jurisdictions where it operates. Pursuant to the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, apps developed by ByteDance Ltd. and its subsidiaries — including TikTok, CapCut, Lemon8, and others — will no longer be available for download or updates on the App Store for users in the United States starting January 19, 2025.

The following are some of the apps developed by ByteDance Ltd. and its subsidiaries that are affected:

TikTok

TikTok Studio

TikTok Shop Seller Center

CapCut

Lemon 8

Hypic

Lark - Team Collaboration

Lark - Rooms Display

Lark Rooms Controller

Gauth: AI Study Companion

MARVEL SNAP

If you live in the United States

If you already have these apps installed on your device, they will remain on your device. But they can't be redownloaded if deleted or restored if you move to a new device. In-App-Käufe und neue Abonnements sind nicht mehr möglich.

Users in the United States won't receive updates for these apps, which could potentially impact performance, security, and compatibility with future versions of iOS and iPadOS, and some app functions might become limited or stop working since the app can't receive updates.

If you're visiting the United States

ByteDance's apps remain available for download in all other countries and regions where they are available.

Users visiting from outside the United States with their Apple Account set to a country or region that is not the United States are unable to download, update or make in-app purchases and new subscriptions inside ByteDance Ltd. apps while within the land or maritime borders of the United States.

After leaving the United States, you'll have access to all functionality.

The White House has signed an

Do you know what an Executive Order can and cannot do? Our country has 3 branches of Government each with their own checks and balances. Otherwise it would be a Dictatorship. Congress has NOT overturned the law and the Supreme Court has not ruled that an Executive Order can even eliminate the fines that the law puts in place on Google and Apple for allowing a user to download the app.

To help you understand, start here:

Still, any legal shield Trump promises by way of executive action will not hold up in court, Rozenshtein argues.

"This is not a power the president has, and he cannot wish it into existence merely by saying something and calling it an executive order," he said.

For those of you that have the attention span to read about and understand the current situation (who am I kidding, there is also a video), the NYT has published: "Tech’s TikTok Dilemma: Follow the Law or President Trump?" (https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/24/technology/tiktok-ban-trump-amazon-apple-google.html?searchResultPosition=28). This is paywalled but only requires a free account to view.

give us tiktok back, if it’s un banned then why not put it back in the appstore

The law has not changed. No how many little cartoon faces you put in your post, Apple isn't going to risk having to pay a $5000 fine so you can have TikTok. You can access TikTok through a web browser.

It’s unban now please bring back TikTok on App Store

It has not been unbanned.

The ban has merely been delayed or postponed, however, the congressional law imposing sanctions on companies that make it available to users in the US is still very much in effect and can cost billions of dollars to Apple if they do make it available.

Do not post claims that are wrong or even false, please verify the status before claiming such things than can cause confusion and grave issues to all parties involved.
