Cancelling a New York Times subscription bought through Apple and "Saved" articles

I did not know, at the time, that when I purchased a NYT subscription that it was actually done through Apple. The surprise came today when I called NYT to ask questions about my account. During the call, I decided to began a subscription directly with NYT and now want to cancel the Apple-sourced NYT subscription.

I've spoken with 2 different NYT representatives about how to do that and whether, or not, the "saved" articles in my Apple-NYT account will be saved on my new NYT account once the Apple NYT account is canceled. Neither person was certain of the answer.

Boy oh boy, have human begins made something that should be simple (a newspaper account) very complicated (third party purchases and apps and different rules for all). As a species, we're good at that, aren't we?

So, (1) do you know if saved articles from the earlier Apple/NYT account will be saved to the new direct with NYT account when the same email address is used?

(2) Is a refund possible on the Apple/NYT account once canceled; it has a term until August?

(3) How does on cancel the Apple/NYT account?

Thank you for helping through this morass.
